[SOUTHERN, HENRY (Editor) (1799-1853)]. The Retrospective Review. [Volumes I-XII].

London: Charles & Henry Baldwyn; Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy; Payne and Foss, 1820-1825. 8vo. Newly rebound in fine black cloth with original leather labels laid down on spine (excepting one volume, for which a new, nearly matching label was made). Scattered foxing and embossed library stamps to title-pages, otherwise nice clean copies. Very good condition. Founded in 1820 by Henry Southern, The Retrospective Review focused on literary criticism of 17th- and 18th-century literature, with an emphasis on British works, though not disregarding foreign and even classical pieces. It provides an outstanding selection of 19th-century literary criticism.
