Typis Archi-Episcopalibus in Emmaus, 1682. Hardcover. Used - Good. Item #155834
12mo, [xv] + 687pp. Vellum hardcover with paper labels to spine two metal clasps. Mattia Bellintani (1534-1611) was an Italian Capuchin preacher, author, and philosophy teacher whose spiritual writings were recommended by the likes of St. Francis de Sales. He also served as minister provincial within his order and was a promoter of Eucharistic devotion. The “Practica orationis” was first published in Italian in 1573 and was subsequently translated into Latin by the Carthusian brother Antonius Wolmar. This copy of the 1682 edition is in overall good condition. Binding and cover are sound and tight. Clasps are intact and functional. Boards are somewhat tanned with age, spotted, and moderately shelf-worn. Corners and edges are lightly rubbed. Gray paper label on spine is about 30% worn off, but portions of the words 'Meditatio P. Bellintani' are visible in black letters. Front endpapers have minor pencil markings. Some pages tanned, especially pp224-304. Pages lightly spotted but text is clear. Overall a good solid copy for its age.
